Aston Villa are reportedly set to miss out on West Ham United’s Reece Burke.
According to The Mirror (13:17), Aston Villa wanted to land West Ham United defender Reece Burke, but their financial nightmare means they haven’t been able to make a move for him.
Burke, 21, has come up through the ranks of the West Ham academy having joined way back in 2003, but has made just 15 first-team appearances for the club, scoring only once.
The centre back – who can also play in holding midfield – has spent time on loan with Bradford City, Wigan Athletic and most recently Bolton Wanderers, building up first-team experience.
Yet with West Ham having Angelo Ogbonna, Winston Reid, Declan Rice and new signing Issa Diop, Burke’s path to the first team has been somewhat blocked – and a move is on the cards.
The Mirror report that Burke is on the verge of a £1.5million move to Championship side Hull City, and Sky Sports claim that he underwent a medical with the Tigers earlier today.
Additionally, The Mirror’s report claims that both Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday were keen on signing Burke, but their respective financial concerns prevented a bid.
Villa certainly don’t have £1.5million to spend on a new signing until they sell players to balance the books, and with teams biding their time on Jack Grealish, Steve Bruce had no chance of securing his signature.
Burke will now be facing Villa this coming season, and Bruce will hope that his inability to bid for Burke doesn’t come back to haunt the club.
