Tottenham Hotspur may now face a battle with Aston Villa for Sevilla director of football Monchi this summer.
Aston Villa boss Unai Emery now wants to secure Sevilla’s Monchi despite links to Tottenham Hotspur.
That is according to Marca reporter Jose Felix Diaz, who claims that Emery intends to bring Monchi to Villa Park.
It’s stated that Emery has turned his attention to Monchi having missed out on a deal for Mateu Alemany.
It looked like Alemany would be heading for Villa but he instead chose to stay in his role as Barcelona’s director of football.
Emery still wants more help on the transfer front though and is hoping to work with Monchi again.
Monchi and Emery worked together at Sevilla between 2013 and 2016, winning three straight Europa League titles together.
Monchi moved on to Roma in 2017 but when that move didn’t work out, he returned to Sevilla in 2019 – and has won the Europa League twice more.
The 54-year-old is highly regarded in the recruitment world and Villa now hope to land him in a major coup.

Tottenham could now miss out on Monchi
Rumours of Villa wanting to land Monchi come just hours after links with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Mundo Deportivo have reported that Monchi is frustrated at Sevilla because he doesn’t have enough power on financial matters.
It was stated that Monchi is considering moving to ‘another project’ elsewhere, with Tottenham touted as the main destination.
The report claims that Monchi has ‘excellent relations’ with Tottenham and could make the move to North London himself.
Tottenham swapped Erik Lamela for Sevilla winger Bryan Gil in 2021 before loaning Gil back to Sevilla in January of this year.
Spurs are seeking a replacement for Fabio Paratici and Monchi could be that man.
Yet with Villa now keen – and dangling the prospect of a reunion with Emery – Spurs could miss out.
