Aston Villa are keeping their options open following Steve Bruce’s departure from the Championship side.
Aston Villa can certainly not be accused of limiting their options following the announcement that Steve Bruce has left Villa Park after two years at the helm, with various reports naming a host of managerial candidates the board have their eye on.
The most exciting and perhaps most ambitious name on Villa’s apparent wishlist is Rafa Benitez, with the Daily Mirror reporting that the Newcastle boss is one target for the new majority shareholders.
The Mail reports that Terry could have his reservations about potentially succeeding Bruce given that he was the manager who signed him last summer, while Potter would arguably be a very intriguing appointment given that he only joined Swansea City ahead of this season.
While it could prove to be a positive move to have so many options, and the international break does give them some breathing space to make an informed decision, it is perhaps not ideal to have such an extensive list at this stage.
A deal for Benitez would be remarkable and send out a real statement to the rest of their Championship rivals, while Smith would also represent an exciting move given what he has done with Brentford.
Carvalhal enjoyed some success with Sheffield Wednesday, but his time with Swansea is likely to mean that he would have a lot to prove if he did come in.
And going for either Henry or Terry would be brave calls given that neither has been a first-team boss.
