It’s been a while since we’ve there’s been a solid update on Arsenal’s reported pursuit of Thomas Partey.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta refused to give anything away when asked about potentially signing the £45 million-rated Atletico Madrid midfielder this week.

But if reports are believed, there’s been movement.

According to Ghana Soccernet, Partey’s representatives are jetting into London to hold talks with Arsenal about him joining the Emirates Stadium club.

The report adds that Partey has refused to sign a new deal with Atletico and that Arteta is a ‘huge admirer’ of the player.

Despite the financial landscape of European football looking fairly grim at the moment, the North Londoners do appear to have significant cash reserves.

Just this week, Arsenal stumped up £14 million to sign Pablo Mari – despite being injured – and big earner David Luiz was handed a one-year contract extension.

Is there £45 million left for Partey? It remains to be seen, but if there was no truth to Arsenal’s reported interest whatsoever then we’d probably know by now.
