Newcastle United winger Ryan Fraser is now expected to join Southampton as part of a deal for defender Tino Livramento.

Southampton’s Tino Livramento remains a top target for Newcastle United and Ryan Fraser could go in the opposite direction.

That is according to a report from The Chronicle, who suggest that Newcastle are ‘hopeful’ of snapping up Livramento.

There is allegedly confidence inside Newcastle that they can secure a deal although there is a gap of £10million in valuations.

The report adds that winger Fraser is expected to join Southampton as part of the deal, which may help bridge the gap.

Fraser only started three Premier League games last season and made an additional five substitute appearances.

Fraser hasn’t played a league game for Newcastle since October and he simply must leave in order to get his career back on track.

The 29-year-old clearly has no future at Newcastle and the former Bournemouth ace could relish a return to the South Coast with Southampton.

Tino Livramento could cost much more than expected

The Telegraph were first on the story about Newcastle pushing to sign Livramento.

They claimed on Monday evening that Newcastle were closing in on a deal worth around £15million for Livramento.

However, The Athletic believe that a deal for the 20-year-old may actually cost a lot more than £15million.

It’s stated that the sell-on clause Chelsea inserted into Livramento’s 2021 exit means Southampton need a big fee.

Chelsea’s sell-on clause is based on profit Southampton make and the higher fee, the bigger slice Chelsea will receive.

That means Southampton are allegedly seeking around £50million and have communicated that figure to Newcastle.

That price tag would give Southampton the £25million to £30million they are seeking once Chelsea take their cut.

Newcastle allegedly offered up £23million for Livramento, which could give Southampton the £15million mentioned by The Telegraph.

Maybe adding Fraser into the deal can help Newcastle, but it sounds like this move could be trickier than first thought.
