Dutch reporter Mike Verweij claims to have asked Micky Van de Ven’s agent about reports linking the Wolfsburg centre-half with a move to Premier League giants Liverpool.

Is 2023 shaping up to the be a summer dominated by Dutch defenders at Anfield?

Jurrien Timber, Perr Schuurs and now Micky Van de Ven have all been linked with Liverpool already; a place alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s backline potentially up for grabs, and a very Oranje hue to the club’s transfer plans.

Timber’s girlfriend is reportedly house hunting in Merseyside. Schuurs’ representative has opened the door to a potential £45 million move away from Torino, having previously confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the one-time Ajax youngster.

Van de Ven, meanwhile, is a player new Liverpool chief Jorg Schmadtke knows like the back of his hand. The experienced sporting director snapped up Van de Ven for a bargain £3.5 million from FC Volendam back in 2021 and, according to the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung, could now look to spark a reunion at Anfield.

Is Micky Van de Ven following Jorg Schmadtke to Liverpool?

And while the youngster’s agent was reluctant to give much away, he did admit that the suitors are now forming an orderly queue for a man who must rank near the very top if you were to rank Schmadtke’s best pound-for-pound signings.

“In the media, you read that Van de Ven is of interest to Liverpool,” explains De Telegraaf reporter Verweij; having discussed those Liverpool links with the 22-year-old’s camp.

“I just made a few calls. The agent didn’t want to say which clubs (are interested), but the clubs really seem to be queuing up.”

The 6ft 4ins Van de Ven ousted the once-coveted Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg’s starting XI this season. He is, however, yet to earn a cap for the senior Dutch side. Much to Verweij’s bemusement.

“I find that remarkable,“ he adds. “If we are talking about notable absentees, I think it’s strange that he doesn’t even get a chance.”

If the £34 million-rated Van de Ven joins Van Dijk and Cody Gakpo at Liverpool, Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman will surely be unable to turn a blind eye for much longer.
