Jesse Lingard trained with the West Ham United first team today but a deal is now considered unlikely.

West Ham United may decide not to sign Jesse Lingard despite his recent spell training with the club.

That is according to Daily Mail reporter Kieran Gill, who has admitted seeing some ‘conflicting information’ about Lingard.

Gill claims that he has had it confirmed that Lingard did train with the West Ham first team at their Rush Green training ground today.

Gill adds that West Ham insiders now claim that a permanent deal for Lingard is now considered ‘unlikely’.

David Moyes will make the final decision but a short-term contract for Lingard may not be on the table after all.

Fans waiting for West Ham squad announcement

As Gill notes, much will depend on West Ham’s squad announcement.

Premier League clubs are confirming their 25-man squads today but West Ham are yet to finalise theirs.

If West Ham announce their squad with 25 players registered, there will be no room for Lingard to join barring a late sale to Turkey.

If West Ham go for less than 25, then there could be room for a free agent like Lingard.

The squad will be announced very soon, so Lingard will be facing a nervous wait to find out West Ham’s decision.

Jesse Lingard may regret not joining West Ham United last summer

Lingard was wanted back at West Ham last summer but chose to sign a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest instead.

The 30-year-old has sadly gone backwards ever since, starting just 12 Premier League games for Steve Cooper’s side last season.

Forest let Lingard go without any qualms and he has now found it very difficult to find a new club.

You have to wonder if Lingard regrets not finalising a return to West Ham last summer rather than picking Forest.

David Moyes got the best out of Lingard at West Ham in 2021, guiding him to nine goals and four assists in 16 games.

Instead, Lingard essentially wasted a year of his career at Forest and may well miss out on a return to West Ham.
