Everton are said to be ‘genuinely’ interested in signing Kalidou Koulibaly, a year after Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp reportedly tried to convince him to move to Anfield.

TalkSPORT say that Everton are majorly keen to land the Napoli centre-back in the summer, with Carlo Ancelotti set to be backed with funds.

“There is definitely interest and genuine interest from Everton there,” reporter Alex Crook said. “It sounds like Ancelotti is going to be backed this summer.

“They believe they have there might manager in place to challenge at that kind of level [Champions League].

“Koulibaly is someone Ancelotti worked with at Napoli, he knows him well.

“£89 million was the fee being talked about this time last year. I think given the global economy when it comes to football, that fee would be dramatically reduced now and Ancelotti would like to get this deal done.”

Koulibaly would certainly be an eye catching addition to Everton’s side, and his arrival could draw some envious glances from Liverpool.

Le 10 Sport reporter that Klopp had rang Koulibaly in an attempt to convince him to join the Reds last summer, but they never managed to get a deal done.

If Koulibaly was now to join Everton, that would really signal their ambition for next term.

Ancelotti has already made great progress since arriving at Goodison Park, and if he is backed with funds this summer, then optimism will surely be very high heading into next campaign.
