Reporter claims ‘very, very good’ Liverpool talent could now leave

Liverpool defender Luke Chambers is a prime target for Bayer Leverkusen this summer with talks over a deal ongoing.

Luke Chambers could leave Liverpool to join Reds hero Xabi Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

That is according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who claims that Leverkusen are ‘very interested in signing Chambers.

It’s stated that talks have been ‘very positive’ so far and negotiations between Liverpool and Leverkusen continue.

Plettenberg adds that there is ‘no verbal agreement yet’ but there are ongoing discussions about a loan with a possible option to buy.

Leverkusen have mostly focused on signing proven players this summer with Jonas Hofmann, Alex Grimaldo and Granit Xhaka arriving.

Xabi Alonso still has an eye for the future though and is now keen to bring Chambers to the Bundesliga.

Liverpool will now weigh up their options with Chambers, as a permanent option may be a sticking point.

Who is Liverpool youngster Luke Chambers?

Chambers hails from Preston in Lancashire and was picked up by Liverpool at the age of just six.

Chambers has made his way up in the Liverpool ranks and was included in the Reds’ tour of Asia last summer.

Primarily a left back or even left-sided centre back in a back three, Chambers featured against against Manchester United during that pre-season trip.

First-team minutes weren’t forthcoming for Chambers though and he was farmed out on loan to Kilmarnock for the second half of last season.

Chambers earned valuable first-team minutes whilst helping Kilmarnock avoid relegation from the Scottish Premiership.

That kind of experience will have been vital for Chambers and many expected another loan move this season, either to League One or the Championship.

Chambers could instead move over to Germany and attempt to become another Jude Bellingham or Jadon Sancho in becoming an English star in the Bundesliga.

Hailed as a ‘very, very good player’ by Liverpool left back Kostas Tsimikas, the 19-year-old is now being backed for a big future – which could end up being with Leverkusen rather than Liverpool.
