Tottenham Hotspur are keeping tabs on Porto striker Mehdi Taremi amid strange links with a move to Arsenal.

Porto striker Mehdi Taremi is being linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur as they eye up potential striker signings.

That is according to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who claims that Taremi is attracting major interest.

It’s stated that AC Milan have made a move for Taremi and they are the top option for the Porto striker right now.

Tavolieri adds that two other clubs are lurking though as Lille and Tottenham are both interested in signing Taremi.

Harry Kane’s future at Tottenham is uncertain yet again and Tottenham will be looking at a host of strikers, including Taremi.

Tavolieri adds that Porto are seeking up to €20million (£17million) for Taremi and a summer exit could materialise.

Who is Tottenham target Mehdi Taremi?

Taremi emerged in his native Iran with the likes of Shahin Bushehr and Iranjavan before a big move to Persepolis in 2014.

Taremi racked up 55 goals in 112 games for Iran’s biggest club, securing a move to Qatari side Al-Gharafa in 2018.

22 goals in 43 games saw Taremi land a move to Europe with Rio Ave, where he continued to find the net with 21 goals in 37 outings.

Porto pounced in 2020 and Taremi just hasn’t stopped scoring, smashing 80 goals in 147 appearances for the Portuguese side.

Taremi turns 31 later this month, so he has been something of a late bloomer as far as European success goes.

This could be Taremi’s chance to make a big move and Tottenham seem to be showing a keen interest.

Taremi has impressed with his creative play as well as his goalscoring ability, but whether he could ever really replace Kane is up for debate.

These rumours of Tottenham wanting Taremi come just days after new links with Arsenal.

The Gunners have been linked with Taremi on many occasions now.

A Bola reported in October that Arsenal were interested in signing Taremi to bolster their striking options.

Gunners technical director Edu was once part of the Iranian national team coaching setup and worked closely with Carlos Quieroz, who managed Taremi on the international stage.

There is a connection there and Taremi was linked with Arsenal again over the weekend as O Jogo claimed that Arsenal have made enquiries into his situation.

Arsenal have already landed a new attacker in Kai Havertz and still have Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun at Mikel Arteta’s disposal.

Balogun may well go but it would still be a surprise to see Arsenal sign Taremi this summer.
