Newcastle United face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League tonight amid rumours about the future of striker Hugo Ekitike.

Paris Saint-Germain are annoyed with Newcastle United target Hugo Ekitike over his reluctance to leave the club.

That is according to reporter Ben Jacobs, who claims that there is ‘frustration’ within PSG over Ekitike.

PSG looked to have landed a huge talent when they signed Ekitike on loan from Stade de Reims in 2022.

The move was turned permanent for €35million (£30million) but has been completely exiled this season.

Paris Saint-Germain frustrated with Hugo Ekitike

Ekitike rejected a late summer move to Eintracht Frankfurt as part of Randal Kolo Muani’s move to PSG.

The striker hasn’t played a single minute for PSG since then and Newcastle United are thought to be keen in January.

90min reported earlier this month that the Magpies are ready to launch a January bid for Ekitike having twice missed out on him in 2022.

PSG seemingly wouldn’t stand in his way as reporter Ben Jacobs claims that PSG are frustrated with Ekitike’s attitude towards an exit.

Jacobs adds that PSG want to ‘draw a line’ under Ekitike’s future and want to sell him rather than loan him out.

Ekitike’s refusal to join Eintracht has seemingly caused major problems and PSG just want rid, potentially strengthening Newcastle’s position.

Newcastle push for Ekitike a surprise

Newcastle may well want another striker in order to support Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson in the final third.

The Magpies have liked Ekitike in the past but many fans would probably rather see Newcastle move on.

L’Equipe reported in January 2022 that Newcastle agreed a deal to sign Ekitike, but the striker then rejected a late move to St James’ Park.

Newcastle tried again over the summer window of 2022 and The Telegraph suggested that a deal had once again been agreed with Reims.

Ekitike then went quiet though and chose a move to PSG instead, rejecting Newcastle for the second time in a matter of months.

Are Newcastle really going to go down the route of trying to sign Ekitike? He’s had two chances to make the move and hasn’t fancied it.

Add in that he hasn’t played for months now and Ekitike, once hailed as ‘very special’ by his former Reims manager Oscar Garcia, would be a surprise January signing for Newcastle.
