Tottenham Hotspur now appear to be pushing to sign Guglielmo Vicario amid claims Empoli are negotiating his sale.
Guglielmo Vicario could be Tottenham Hotspur’s next goalkeeping target with the Italian media reporting that a deal is moving forward.
Sport Italia reporter Michele Criscitello has now been quoted as saying that Tottenham are in talks to sign Vicario.
Criscitello claims that Inter Milan were looking to snap up Vicario as a replacement for Andre Onana, who could go to Chelsea.
However, Inter have been ‘wasting time’ in Criscitello’s words and now risk missing out.
Criscitello claims that ‘important money’ has arrived at the door of Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi – and the offer is coming from Tottenham.
Criscitello admits that he doesn’t know the exact figures involved, but that Tottenham want the Italian.
“Inter will probably sell Onana: we are talking about important figures with Chelsea,” said Criscitello. “The Nerazzurri had Vicario in their grip, but now they are wasting time and as a result the goalkeeper has fallen heavily in these hours, with important money, at Corsi’s house, from Tottenham. Empoli are negotiating with the English, I don’t know the figures,” he added.
Tottenham are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer with Hugo Lloris widely expected to leave the club.
Brentford stopper David Raya has been Tottenham’s top target but pulling off a deal for the Spaniard has been difficult.
90Min noted on Tuesday that Tottenham were looking at other options and Vicario may now be one of them.

Vicario was born in Udine and came up through the ranks with hometown club Udinese, but never made a Serie A appearance.
After a loan spell with Fontanafredda, Vicario moved on to Venezia and impressed enough in four seasons there to join Cagliari.
That move didn’t quite work out for Vicario as he was loaned out to Pergua and then Empoli, with the latter move becoming permanent just last summer.
Vicario has excelled for Empoli and is currently in the Italian national team as Roberto Mancini’s third-choice stopper.
Praised as an ‘excellent’ goalkeeper by former Italy goalkeeper Ivano Bordon, Vicario has dazzled in Serie A and seems primed for a big move.
Tottenham would certainly represent the biggest move of Vicario’s career and give him a huge platform on which to shine.
