Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister allegedly isn’t set on Champions League football amid links with a move to Anfield.

Champions League football isn’t the be all and end all for Liverpool target Alexis Mac Allister this summer.

That is according to reporter Graeme Bailey, who has been speaking on the Talking Transfers podcast.

The Athletic reported last week that Mac Allister is set on playing Champions League football if he is to leave Brighton.

Liverpool appear to be the favourites for Mac Allister’s signature but they are set to miss out on the top four.

Bailey has now claimed that rumours of Mac Allister possibly turning down Liverpool because of Champions League football are ‘a nonsense’.

Bailey suggests that Mac Allister and his family appreciate the interest from Liverpool regardless of their Champions League situation.

It was added that a deal is ‘some way down the line’ but the Mac Allister family have yet to commit to Liverpool.

“There was talk that Mac Allister wouldn’t be going because of Champions League football – that’s a nonsense, that’s been ruled out,” said Bailey. “When Liverpool come in for you… the Mac Allisters appreciate them and he has been talking to them. It is some way down the line in terms of talks but they haven’t committed to Liverpool yet,” he added.

Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool – the latest

This story has been rumbling for weeks now and it looks like Liverpool are getting closer.

Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this month that Liverpool’s move for Mac Allister was progressing well after meetings were held.

Romano is adamant that Mac Allister is ‘100%’ leaving Brighton this summer and a deal could be done early in the window.

Argentinian reporter Cesar Luis Merlo then reported just days later that Liverpool had offered Mac Allister a five-year deal.

That was all pretty encouraging and the noises from Argentina suggest that Mac Allister is Anfield-bound.

Gaston Edul claimed over the weekend that Mac Allister is ‘going to be a Liverpool player’ this summer.

TyC Sports in Argentina added that Liverpool will be paying around £70million to sign Mac Allister.

Everything is pointing towards Mac Allister joining Liverpool and starting Jurgen Klopp’s midfield revolution.

Hailed as ‘incredible’ by Brighton’s Adam Lallana, Mac Allister could now follow in his footsteps by turning out for the Reds.
