Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara could return to Barcelona this summer with his future up in the air.

People inside Liverpool have growing belief that Thiago Alcantara could make an emotional move back to Barcelona.

That is according to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who claims that Thiago may head back to Catalunya this summer.

It’s suggested that sources inside Liverpool believe Thiago leaving for Barcelona is a ‘concrete possibility’.

Tavolieri claims that Thiago would be ‘more than keen’ to make a return to Barcelona this summer and play for Xavi.

Thiago and Xavi played together at Barcelona, featuring in 51 games and losing just four times.

A reunion may well appeal to Thiago, whose role at Liverpool is a little complicated now Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are on board.

Liverpool may be tempted to sell Thiago

Thiago was an exciting addition for Liverpool back in 2020 as he traded Bayern Munich for Anfield.

The Spaniard has played almost 100 games for Liverpool and has produced some magical performances in midfield with his outstanding technical ability.

Those displays maybe haven’t been as consistent as some would have liked but Thiago has largely been a good season for the Reds.

Thiago is 32 now though and is entering the final year of his Liverpool contract.

We can’t imagine another contract being on offer to Thiago as things stand and this may be the last chance to cash in.

Whilst Thiago isn’t exactly in the same mould as Sergio Busquets, Barcelona may see him as a player who can bring similar control in midfield whilst possessing the Barca DNA they love so much.

Liverpool midfield overhaul could continue with Thiago exit

This is quite the day for rumours surrounding Liverpool midfielders.

Jordan Henderson seems to be closing in on a move to Saudi Arabia whilst Fabinho could join him there.

Now it’s Thiago being linked away and when you factor in that James Milner, Naby Keita, Arthur Melo and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have already gone, Liverpool’s midfield numbers could decrease rapidly.

The problem for Liverpool is that selling Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago may not bring in all that much in terms of transfer fees with all three either in their 30’s or approaching 30.

Replacing all three without bringing in major fees would be a huge ask and Liverpool may need to weigh up whether they can really lose three experienced midfielders at once.
