Tottenham Hotspur had been expecting to sign Ashley Phillips but one reporter believes the move could collapse.

Blackburn Rovers defender Ashley Phillips could miss out on a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

That is according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, who reports that Phillips has already completed his medical with Tottenham.

However, there are problems emerging over the fee required to get Phillips out of Ewood Park.

It’s suggested that clubs were told Phillips has a release clause worth £2million plus add-ons.

Blackburn are now demanding £5million plus add-ons though, with Nixon claim that a ‘there may be a row’ over this alleged release clause and its exact wording.

This sounds like a bizarre situation and Tottenham will be trying to get to the bottom of the details in the teenage defender’s contract.

Blackburn may be trying to get out of the release clause and secure a bigger deal but Nixon believes Tottenham are ‘unlikely’ to meet the higher demands.

Nixon is the only reporter claiming issues on this deal and his claims will be a real boost to Blackburn fans as their hopes of keeping Phillips rise.

Tottenham must push to iron out Ashley Phillips deal

Some will wonder why Phillips would have undergone a medical if a deal wasn’t in place.

Spurs have been progressing with this deal over the last few days and may have requested permission to run medical checks on Phillips to try and accelerate a potential trip to join Tottenham’s tour in Asia.

Completing a medical whilst the clubs were in talks would have expedited the process but there appears to have been a snag.

90Min reported that Tottenham were on the verge of signing Phillips in a £3million deal ahead of Everton, Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Tottenham will surely hope to iron out the issues with 18-year-old Phillips a top talent for the future.

The teenager already has 14 first-team appearances to his name with Rovers and has showcased his potential in the England youth ranks.

It would be a shame to see Spurs miss out on this deal over a couple of million pounds, and if Nixon is right then we would urge Tottenham to get a deal done somehow.
