A report from the Daily Mail last week suggested that Aston Villa are watching Eintracht Frankfurt striker Haris Seferovic – but they may face an uphill battle to sign him.
Villa have splashed out big money to sign a host of strikers over the past year, with Ross McCormack, Jonathan Kodjia and Scott Hogan all arriving in huge deals.
Whilst Kodjia has starred and Hogan is showing promise, McCormack has been loaned out to Nottingham Forest after a torrid time under Steve Bruce, whilst Libor Kozak is injured and Gabby Agbonlahor is a shadow of his former self.
With Rudy Gestede and Jordan Ayew leaving in January, manager Bruce may subsequently want another striker this summer – but competition for the man he wants could be strong.
The Daily Mail claimed last week that Villa are interested in signing Eintracht Frankfurt hitman Haris Seferovic, a Swiss international who will be available on a free transfer as his contract expires this summer.
Seferovic, 25, has featured for the likes of Fiorentina and Real Sociedad in recent years, and scored 15 goals in his first two seasons with Eintracht Frankfurt, but has found the net just twice in 20 Bundesliga appearances this term.
A strong centre forward who works hard but often lacks quality, Seferovic could be a focal point for Kodjia or Hogan to work off at Villa Park, but Villa face a real battle to land the striker this summer.

Portuguese newspaper Record reported in January that Benfica have offered Seferovic a five-year contract to join the club at the end of the season, offering him Champions League football whilst making themselves the favourites for his signature.
That’s hard for Villa to compete with, as whilst Bruce may see Seferovic as the ideal target man, turning down Champions League football to join a Championship club is a decision that few players – especially those with international ambitions like Seferovic.
Villa have the backing of Tony Xia and could match Benfica’s offer financially, and offering him more first-team football may be the only way that Villa can beat Benfica to his signature, with the battle for Seferovic seemingly intensifying.
