Celtic need to address their lack of quality at right-back this summer.

Bolton’s woes look set to continue, with The Sun reporting that youngster Harry Brockbank can leave the club for free this summer, with Championship and Scottish Premiership sides taking an interest in the 20-year-old.

It is not clear who his admirers are at this stage, but one club that should perhaps take a look at the starlet this summer is Celtic, particularly if former Bolton boss Neil Lennon stays in charge beyond the end of the season.

Lennon had left the Trotters before Brockbank arrived, with the club’s official website suggesting that he joined in 2017. But after the final day of the Premiership season, Celtic really need to consider taking a gamble.

Mikael Lustig has arguably improved again under Lennon, but right-back is going to be one area of the squad that the Hoops simply must strengthen this summer.

Manager of Celtic Neil Lennon walks to the dugout before the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Aberdeen and Celtic at Pittodrie Stadium on May 04, 2019 in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Lustig is not the long-term answer, and Anthony Ralston was poor against Hearts at Parkhead at the weekend. It does appear that the academy graduate has not developed at the rate he had been expected to, and he arguably has a lot to prove if he wants to get near to holding down a spot in the Celtic lineup in the coming years.

Targeting Brockbank may be a risk as he has only just broken into Bolton’s first-team. But he appears to have a lot of potential, and could be an inspired signing on a free transfer.

He is obviously not ready to be the answer to Celtic’s right-back problem next season. But if the Bhoys overhaul all of their options in that area of the field, then Brockbank could be an excellent understudy for a marquee addition this summer.
