Newcastle United should make a January move for the Burnley forward.
Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez will be desperate to bolster his ranks at St James’ Park in January, with the Toon’s Premier League status hanging in the balance.
A key area where the Spaniard will be looking to strengthen is his centre-forward department, although it is unclear whether he will be backed in the January transfer market.
With this in mind, Newcastle should consider a move for Burnley forward Ashley Barnes, who could be available for just £10 million next month, according to a report from the Sun (print version, 23rd December, page 61).
The 29-year-old is a real live-wire and must be a constant nightmare for opposition defenders.
Barnes is physically strong, and possesses excellent movement, dragging defenders all over the place.
The Burnley forward would be the perfect partner for Salomon Rondon, considering the fact that he likes to play just off the main striker.
He never stops hassling and harrying, and is a real menace.
Barnes is not just a one-trick pony, however. He is also technically gifted, and is a proficient finisher when presented with a goalscoring opportunity.
£10 million in today’s market for someone with Barnes’ quality would surely be considered as a real coup, and Benitez should not hesitate to bring him to Newcastle next month.
