West Ham United reportedly want to bring Mario Mandzukic to the Premier League after he fell out of favour at Serie A champions Juventus.
Mario Mandzukic has rejected the chance to move to Qatar, according to Calciomercato – meaning the door is still well and truly open for West Ham United to snap up the Juventus striker in the January transfer window.
The Mirror sparked speculation earlier in September when they claimed that one of the most decorated centre-forwards of the modern era could be on his way to the London Stadium.
The former Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and Wolfsburg striker appears to be heading out of Turin sooner rather than later after being omitted from Juventus’ Champions League squad for the current campaign – despite his tendency to step up and make crucial contributions in the very biggest games.
West Ham would apparently jump at the chance to bring the 33-year-old to the English capital, however, and Mandzukic is clearly not ready to step away from the limelight and boost his bank balance in the Middle East.
Calciomercato claims that the 2018 World Cup finalist and 89-time Croatia international has turned down an offer from Slavisa Jokanovic’s Al-Gharafa Sports Club, deciding instead to make a decision on his future in the New Year.
West Ham might not be able to compete with clubs in Qatar on a financial basis but the chance to prove himself in the Premier League in the autumn of a storied career should appeal to a man who has never shirked a challenge.
