The Leicester City man is reportedly a top target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that the Foxes have dropped their asking price for Riyad Mahrez down to £40 million from £50 million, as some of Europe’s elite continue to circle around the Algerian.
The Evening Standard reported last week that Spurs made an enquiry to Leicester, asking to be kept informed of the 26-year-old’s situation, whilst making it clear they were not willing to pay £50 million for his services.
Now that his price-tag has dropped by 20 per cent though, Mauricio Pochettino could very well be interested in bringing him to Tottenham, although there is equally as much chance that Daniel Levy will be more likely to playing the waiting game, in the hope that his value drops even further still.
Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez
Mahrez endured a challenging campaign in the Premier League last term, but his form for Leicester during the 2015/16 season is what is still attracting the likes of Spurs.
He scored 17 goals and registered 11 assists during the Foxes title winning campaign, and his dynamic displays were a major contributing factor behind his team’s success.
A move to one of the league’s elite clubs would surely help raise the Algeria international’s levels even further still, and he would undoubtedly add a certain level of potency to Tottenham’s attacking play.
His potential arrival in north London would help ease the creative burden on the shoulders of Christian Eriksen, and he would provide fantastic cover for the currently crocked Erik Lamela.
And whilst £50 million for Mahrez’s services seemed a tad extortionate, £40 million could be viewed as just about right in the current market.
It still remains to be seen, however, if Daniel Levy is prepared to part with that kind of cash for the 26-year-old. Spurs fans won’t be holding their breaths though, that much is certain.
