Monaco's Kylian Mbappe-Lottin scores their second goal

Given Tottenham Hotspur’s alleged interest in AS Monaco attacker Kylian Mbappe – as reported by the Mirror – it would be no surprise if Spurs fans were keeping a close eye on his Champions League outing against Manchester City earlier this week, and if they did they would not have been disappointed.

The 18-year-old was immense during his 79 minutes on the pitch, scoring one of Monaco’s three goals and looking a constant threat to City’s back line.

It is easy to get carried when young players have a few good games, but Mbappe is not a flash in the pan. He is very much the real deal and on Tuesday’s evidence he is ready for the Premier League if and when Tottenham make their move.

Of course given Monaco’s emergence and their superb squad, there is no guarantee Mbappe would want to leave his homeland any time soon, and it would be presumptuous in the extreme to assume that just because Tottenham came knocking, the teenager would go running.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino

But if Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had any doubts about bidding big for the youngster, his performance against City would have put them to bed in emphatic fashion.

Mbappe will not come cheap and he may not come at all. However he proved this week that the hype is justified, and if Tottenham can somehow get their man he would take their team to the next level.
