Lazio president Claudio Lotito has shaved £30 million off Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s price tag in what could boost Jose Mourinho’s hopes of bringing the Serie A star to Tottenham Hotspur, according to FootMercato.

There are a multitude of reasons why Lazio might now be willing to sell ‘the Sergeant’ for around £65 million, having previously demanded closer to £100 million for one of the top midfielders in European football.

If you hadn’t noticed, there is a global crisis going on; one that will leave an indelible imprint on the transfer market. Furthermore, Milinkovic-Savic has been overshadowed somewhat by the likes of Luiz Felipe and Luis Alberto at Lazio in recent months; going from leading man to just one member of a star-studded cast.

‘SMS’ is still a match-winning talent on his day. However, he is falling well short of the standards he set during an exceptional 2017/18 campaign, when the Serbia international produced 14 goals and eight assists in all competitions.

With Lazio now allegedly open to accepting a vastly reduced fee, Tottenham may never have a better chance to sign a player who could have been purpose-built in a lab at Jose Mourinho’s request.

Standing at 6ft 4ins and but blessed with sublime technical skills, Milinkovic-Savic is a physical beast who can change games all on his own. And, as the Mail points out, Mourinho would love to snap up a player represented by his former Chelsea striker Mateja Kezman.

Then again, with funds tighter than ever in North London, Spurs’ chances still look slim.

“I do really respect Pogba, let’s be clear, and other linkers who can run and work for the team, but I think now Sergej has different and better quality than Pogba,” Kezman told Mozzart Sport of Milinkovic-Savic.
