Tottenham Hotspur should give Trippier a chance if Kyle Walker leaves, rather than signing the Bournemouth man.

According to a report from the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is considering a move for Bournemouth’s Adam Smith if Kyle Walker leaves this summer.

But is the Cherries right-back really any better than Tottenham’s alternative option Kieran Trippier?

Smith has featured 34 times this season, scoring one goal and providing five assists, while his record during his time at Bournemouth is four goals and 14 assists in 153 matches.

In contrast, Trippier has played 20 times in all competitions during the current campaign, failing to find the net but also setting up five goals.

When you also factor in his record at former club Burnley, where he scored six goals and set up an impressive 37 in 185 matches, it would be difficult to make a case for Smith being a better option than what Tottenham already have.

Trippier has been patient since his move to White Hart Lane, but whenever he has played he has performed admirably and it would be unfair to shunt him aside for a player who is no more than his equal on the field.

With regular game time, Trippier could be an effective attacking option down the right as well as doing a great job defensively, and if Walker does move on this summer Pochettino should take that chance.
