The Eintracht Frankfurt hitman scored for Serbia against Germany.
Luka Jovic, who has been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, delivered another impressive performance this season as he scored for Serbia in a friendly away to Germany on Wednesday night.
The Eintracht Frankfurt ace, on loan from Portuguese club Benfica, gave the visitors the lead in the 12th minute when he headed home from close range, making the most of lacklustre German defending.
However, Joachim Low’s men improved after the break and substitute Leon Goretzka scored an equaliser in the 69th minute with a well-placed shot past the Serbian goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic.
According to German publication Bild in November, Liverpool wanted the Eintracht Frankfurt hitman in January, though a move never materialised, while Tottenham were reported to be tracking him last year, according to Calciomercato.
Speaking after the international game with DW, Jovic – who has 22 goals from 36 club appearances this season (Transfermarkt) – commented on the challenge posed by Niklas Sule and Jonathan Tah, and in the process outlined a flaw in his own game.
“I know both of them from the Bundesliga and they might be the best defenders in the league,” he said. “Especially when it comes to headers, they are really strong in the air. It’s difficult to win any duels, especially for me since I’m not that tall.”
Standing at 181cm, approximately 5ft 11in (Transfermarkt), he is the same height as Roberto Firmino and a bit shorter than Vincent Janssen and Son Heung-min, and with Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino both preferring ground play as opposed to long-ball tactics, it probably wouldn’t be an issue for either side.
However, Spanish outlet AS claims that Barcelona are already in talks for the Serbian hitman, so could either of the two Premier League sides weigh in and seek to muscle the Blaugrana away from Jovic ahead of the opening of the transfer window?
