Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have both been long-term admirers of Abdoulaye Doucoure, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side reportedly want him in January.

According to the Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur want Abdoulaye Doucoure, just months after he admitted that he would prefer an Arsenal move.

Arsenal and Spurs have both been long-term admirers of the Watford midfielder, and he has reportedly come back on to Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s radar.

But back in February, Doucoure was asked whether he would prefer a move to Tottenham or Arsenal.

And he said to The Mirror: “Arsenal, because of Arsene Wenger.”

Wenger has, of course, now left Arsenal which may have changed Doucoure’s mind.

But the comments are likely to come back to haunt the French midfielder if he is to make a move to Tottenham.

Pochettino is known to want to strengthen in central midfield, after missing out on a number of targets in the last transfer window.

Tottenham failed to make one addition in the summer, but they are expected to be active in January.

Doucoure would be in competition with the likes of Mousa Dembele, Harry Winks and Eric Dier for a first-team place at Spurs.
