Aston Villa need to push for promotion in order to keep their best players – and that includes Spurs target Andre Green.

Aston Villa have grown accustomed to seeing their best players depart year in year out. Yet, at least supporters got to the see the best of James Milner, Christian Benteke, Ashley Young and co before they departed for bigger and supposedly better things elsewhere.

Reports in The Mirror that 19-year-old homegrown winger Andre Green has attracted a huge amount of interest from Premier League clubs will raise concerns among Villa fans that the talented attacker won’t even be wearing claret and blue by the time he starts to fulfil his potential.

The teenager, who has been with Villa since the age of nine, made a positive impression last season when given the odd opportunity by manager Steve Bruce but has exploded into life in the early stages of 2017/18.

Villa may have only won one of their first five games but it’s no surprise that it coincided with a superb performance from the maverick Green, who scored his first senior goal with a sublime curling strike in that 4-2 thrashing of Norwich City.

However, with the Midlands giants closer to the bottom of the table than the top, you get the feeling that Villa really need to start pushing on for promotion if they are to hang onto a player who, amongst others, has been scouted by Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Manchester City.

Tottenham, in particular, would look like the perfect destination for the England Under-19 starlet to build upon his undoubted potential, per The Mirror.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is responsible for launching the careers of several senior England stars, from Harry Kane, Danny Rose and Dele Alli at Spurs to Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw at Southampton.

And Villa may find that, if they fail to challenge for the top six again this season, it will be increasingly difficult to keep hold of their prized asset in a year’s time.
