Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool reportedly want to sign the RB Leipzig ace.
According to a report from German publication Bild, RB Leipzig are attempting to tie Timo Werner down to a new contract that would include a £61 million buy-out clause, in news that will be a blow to Liverpool’s and Tottenham’s hopes of signing the forward.
German media outlet Sport Bild claimed earlier this month that both the Reds and Spurs were tracking the 22-year-old front-man.
Bild reported earlier on this month that the Germany international could be available for just £36 million, if he failed to sign a new contract, and it seems as though Leipzig are desperate to avoid that from happening.
Werner is a real talent, and would be an exceptional addition for either Tottenham or Liverpool, but should he sign a new contract with the Bundesliga outfit, with a reported buy-out clause of £61 million, the north London club would realistically not have a chance of signing him.
Liverpool do possesses the kind of financial firepower needed to lure him away from Germany, however.
Much will depend on what Werner actually wants to do, and with his current contract expiring in the summer of 2020, something will have to give sooner rather than later.
