Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona reportedly want Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Frenkie de Jong, but the Ajax midfielder’s comments suggest that the Premier League club may lose out to Barcelona.
Sport has claimed that Spanish and European giants Barcelona wanted to sign the 21-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window and had two bids turned down.
Mundo Deportivo has reported that Barca will continue to keep tabs on the youngster, and the Netherlands international’s comments about playing with Lionel Messi suggest that he would choose the Spanish powerhouse over Tottenham.
Sport quotes De Jong as saying: “If you end up at a superior club, you will play with world class players all over the pitch. But for me, honestly, I would like to play with Messi one day.”

De Jong’s admiration of Messi, who is one of the greatest players of all time, is probably indicative of his desire to play for Barcelona in the future.
True, Ajax are a big club, but the Dutch side are also a selling club, and one suspects that in the future the midfielder will be sold.
If Tottenham and Barcelona both make offers for De Jong, one suspects that the 21-year-old will pick the Blaugrana due to his dream of playing with Argentine star Messi.
