Newcastle United have been linked with fullback duo James Tavernier and Danny Rose.

The Newcastle United job has proven to be a poison chalice for whoever has walked up and down the St James’ Park touchline during this past decade.

It is a category that Steve Bruce might just fall under, as transfer dealings or lack of them, have played a major part in the source of frustration at the North East club.

Bruce recently came out and stated that he will not be Mike Ashley’s ‘puppet’ [Mirror] and he is in charge of transfers, well reality may just hit Bruce in these coming weeks.

The Daily Record recently stated James Tavernier tops Newcastle’s wishlist this summer, as the right-back would provide much-needed quality in that area.

Added with that, the Daily Star have claimed that Bruce wants to sign left-back Danny Rose, who has stayed at home to sort out his future.

If Newcastle can somehow get those signings through the door before the window slams shut on August 8 then it’ll leave the Toon Army faithful pretty speechless, especially the signing of Rose.

But given who is in charge of the boardroom, Bruce will more than likely face the harsh realties the likes of Rafa Benitez faced for a number of windows, and that is main targets or ambition signings don’t usually occur under Ashley.

The glimmer of hope for Bruce is the money in the pot from Ayoze Perez’s sale to Leicester City earlier on this month. If that does become available then Bruce may just get his ways.

But as previous Newcastle managers have seen before, a player like Rose may seemingly be wanted, but in truth, there’s more chance of Manchester City deciding not to spend big-money during the transfer window.
