Burnley keeper Tom Heaton is reportedly a target for Premier League duo Aston Villa and Liverpool.

Whilst Aston Villa have been one of the busiest teams during the summer transfer window, Liverpool have been one of the quietest.

The transfer window is set to slam shut on August 8, and it seems as though both Villa and Liverpool are battling for the same player.

The Daily Mail have claimed that the Midlands and Merseyside giants are interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

The 33-year-old, who has 96 Premier League caps to his name, now has a big decision to make in who he signs for, but his final choice should be a simple one.

Heaton has been part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad in recent seasons, and when he hasn’t been a part of the squad, a lack of game time and injuries have played a part in that.

The 2020 European Championships is around the corner and if Heaton wants to be a part of the Three Lions squad for the Euro’s then he shouldn’t hesitate in picking Villa.

There’s no way that Heaton will get ahead of Alisson Becker at Liverpool, with the Brazillian now arguably one of the best keepers in the world following his performances during these past 12 months.

But at Villa, Heaton would instantly become number one because he is better than what Dean Smith currently has at his disposal and he has more experience than any of those guys put together.

If the former Manchester United man can earn extra game time, which he would at Villa, then it’ll increase his chances of making the England squad.

The temptation of joining the Champions League winners would be very hard to turn down but considering his age, Villa would be the best option for Heaton’s career as a whole.
