Everton are said to be tracking the out-of-favour Watford man.

According to the Mirror, Everton are planning a late loan swoop for Watford’s Stefano Okaka, but the 28-year-old is not good enough for the Toffees and would be an uninspiring addition even at this late stage of the transfer window.

Everton have known for some time that they need to replace Romelu Lukaku after the Belgian’s switch to Manchester United, and with plenty in the transfer coffers they should have quickly set about identifying and signing a replacement.

Instead, with just two days of the current window remaining, manager Ronald Koeman is still looking for an out-and-out striker to supplement the signings of Sandro Ramirez and Wayne Rooney and his gaze appears to have turned to the experienced Italian.

Everton’s early transfer business suggested a top-four challenge was on the horizon, and it still could be if all the new faces play to their full potential and Lukaku’s goals are sufficiently replaced.

The problem is: Okaka is not the answer, with the striker only reaching double figures for one of his many clubs. That is not in a single season, that is during his entire stay at each and every side he has played for, with his 17 goals in 49 matches for Anderlecht the best he has managed by quite some distance.

A loan deal would of course ease the risk somewhat, but if Everton are targeting a striker who rarely finds the net, something is very wrong.

Everton fans are right to be unimpressed by the latest link although, unless Koeman has an ace up his sleeve, Okaka could be the best they can hope for.
