Kamil Grosicki insists he wants to stay at West Bromwich Albion but Nottingham Forest could come in for him again in January, speaking to Sportowe Fakty.

21 seconds.

That’s the time that separated Grosicki from a deadline day switch from the Hawthorns to the City Ground.

West Brom had agreed a deal with Nottingham Forest but, after what felt like an age, the EFL finally put their foot down and judged on Saturday that the transfer could not be concluded.

But if you thought Grosicki would have been left fuming after a drawn-out saga ended in him staying put, think again.

“I didn’t want to leave West Bromwich Albion,” the former Rennes and Hull star makes clear, adding Premier League football would boost his hopes of a place in Poland’s Euro 2021 squad.

“I didn’t want to leave but, on the other hand, Nottingham Forest fought a lot for me. They also offered an excellent contract. I’d make a lot more money than at West Brom.

“I signed my contract with Nottingham Forest five minutes before the window closed, exactly at 4.55pm. There were no complications on my part. I don’t know who was at fault later, who made the mistake.”

Grosicki hasn’t played a single second of Premier League football for West Brom since promotion but was added to their 25-man squad after the Forest move finally fell through.

Interestingly, however, the 32-year-old did suggest Forest could come calling again in January, admitting owner Evangelos Marinakis had been in touch.

“We’ll wait until 31 January and see what happens. On Thursday, I spoke to the president of Nottingham Forest. We wished each other the best. He said ‘we’ll be in touch’,” Grosicki adds.

The saga may not be over just yet.

However, according to the Mirror (1 November, page 65), Forest will face competition from Championship rivals Middlesbrough when the window opens again.
