Burnley are looking for a new winger and they look to have identified the right man in the Scotland international.
Burnley could make an audacious bid for Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie, according to the Daily Mail.
Although Ritchie has yet to find the net this season, having starred in the Championship last term, he remains a regular starter for Rafa Benitez’s men.
But Sean Dyche needs to replace the injured Robbie Brady as Burnley look to maintain a European push in the top half of the Premier League and it is easy to see why Ritchie would top his list of candidates.
The Scotland international may have struggled in front of goal on his return to the top flight, but his deliveries from wide positions remain as consistent as ever.
Ritchie is Newcastle’s top assist provider and his tally of five – already hindered by deflections on two further goals – would be greater if Benitez had been able to recruit a proven goalscorer.
Burnley’s Chris Wood would certainly thrive on Ritchie’s crosses, while the wide man’s hard work – as well as his skillset – would fit the Clarets’ game plan and perhaps earn greater credit.
Jacob Murphy and Christian Atsu have emerged as stars for Newcastle over the festive period, perhaps encouraging Burnley to make their move for fellow winger Ritchie.
If the fee is right, it could be a move that works for the Magpies, Burnley and the player.
