According to a recent report from the Sunderland Echo, the Black Cats continue to monitor Besiktas player Tolgay Arslan ahead of a potential summer deal, and the 26-year-old would be exactly what manager David Moyes needs to strengthen his central midfield.
Sunderland have been weak in central areas this season and their inability to dictate the play has seen them fall to the bottom of the Premier League table.
There is still time to turn things around, but with six points separating the Black Cats from safety and just 11 games remaining, there is a lot of work to be done.
Assuming Sunderland complete yet another great escape – and perhaps even if they do not – Arslan would be the solution to their midfield problems.
He is a player with impressive passing ability and composure on the ball and he could be the midfield pendulum the club need to start ticking over effectively once more.
With his Besiktas contract expiring in less than 18 months, he could also be available for a relatively cheap fee, which makes him all the more enticing for a Sunderland side that needs to start getting it right in the transfer market after some questionable recent signings.
