Reported Sunderland target Kyle Magennis has signed a new contract with St. Mirren.

Sunderland manager Jack Ross reportedly wanted to sign Kyle Magennis in the summer transfer window, but the 19-year-old has decided to commit his future to St. Mirren.
According to The Express last month, Sunderland manager Ross wanted to secure the services of Magennis this summer.

It was reported that the 19-year-old midfielder is valued at close to £1 million, and that Ross rates him more than Lewis Morgan, who is now at Celtic.

“Ross rated the teenager as the most exciting of his Paisley starlets, ahead even of Lewis Morgan, who won a move to Celtic and is in the current Scotland squad,” added the report in The Express.

Ross, who was appointed the Sunderland manager earlier this summer, worked with Magennis (and Morgan) at St. Mirren, but he seems to have failed in his attempt to lure the teenage midfielder to the Stadium of Light.
As announced on St. Mirren’s official website, Magennis signed a one-year contract extension which ties him to the Scottish club until June 2021.
Sunderland will now have to move on and focus on other transfer targets. The Black Cats will play in League One next season after getting relegated from the Championship.
