The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Quoted by Team Talk, Palermo Vice-President Guglielmo Miccicche has revealed that reported Tottenham Hotspur target Franco Vazquez can leave the Italian club for £23 million this summer.
The 27-year-old playmaker fuelled speculation of a move away this past week by admitting that he needed a “change of scenery” following a season in which he helped the Serie A outfit avoid relegation.
It was reported by The Mirror in recent days that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was indeed a fan of the Italian number 10, who scored eight times and set up another seven in the league this past season.
Miccicche is well aware that he has a “serious person” within his ranks and, as a result, Palermo are refusing to do business on the cheap, telling Tottenham and anybody else who might be interested that Vazquez will cost upwards of £23 million.
“Of course he was vital for us. Without him we would have probably been relegated to Serie B,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss, quoted by Team Talk.
“Whoever wants him will have to pay €30m (£23.2m), I don’t know if he could play behind the two strikers, but he would be perfect close to Gonzalo Higuain.
“He’s one of the last No.10 left in Italian football and whoever will buy him will make a real deal. Vazquez is a serious person and a true pro.”
Given his position, Vazquez is unlikely to feature heavily for Tottenham in Premier League action at least. Well, not unless he finds a way of displacing the frighteningly talented Dele Alli, who for the moment operates in behind striker Harry Kane.
By virtue of his price-tag, though, perhaps Alli needs competition in the side in order to aid his continued development.
