Bongani Zungu is set to leave Amiens this summer and Rangers can sign the South Africa international for £4.5 million, according to 11Amienos.

With the Glasgow giants determined to stop their Old Firm rivals in their tracks before ‘ten in a row’ becomes a reality, Steven Gerrard and Ross Wilson have used the time available during the ongoing postponement of club football very wisely indeed.

Gerrard has been keen to point out that Rangers already have plans in place ahead of the summer transfer window, and it seems that Zungu has emerged as one of the top targets.

The Mail (28 June, page 71) reports that the Premiership runners-up have been pouring over clips of Zungu in action in recent weeks.

Yet if they were hoping that the 27-year-old defensive midfielder would be available on the cheap, after Amiens were relegated from Ligue 1, they will have been sadly mistaken.

Reports claim that, while Zungu will not be staying around to help his side earn promotion back to the top flight, it will take a sizeable fee of £4.5 million to bring him to Scotland.

Such a fee would put the 29-capped international amongst the top ten most expensive signings in Rangers’ history.

But if he helps knock Celtic off their proverbial perch, that would be £4.5 million well spent.
