The Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard, has overseen a clearout of strikers at Ibrox.

Rangers could be in need of another centre-forward ahead of the summer transfer deadline.

The Rangers boss, Steven Gerrard, still has Alfredo Morelos and Jermain Defoe vying for a place in his attack, although he recently allowed Kyle Lafferty, Ryan Hardie and Andrew Dallas to leave.

And while Zak Rudden remains on Rangers’ books, Gerrard may opt to loan the youngster out again after a productive spell at Falkirk last season.

One name that could be of interest belongs to man linked with a move to Ibrox by the Belfast Telegraph earlier this summer, Josh Magennis of Bolton Wanderers – especially after reports emerging in the local media on Friday afternoon.

According to the Bolton News, Magennis has refused to travel to the Trotters’ League One opener at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

That is after the Northern Ireland international, it is claimed, handed in the required 14 days’ notice to terminate his contract at the club.

Magennis is among the Bolton players who were paid for the first time in months on Friday, although that is not said to have affected his plan to leave amid interest from ‘several’ other clubs.

Whether or not Gerrard’s Rangers are one of them remains to be seen. However, there is certainly more scope now for a Gers move for Magennis than there was when the link between the two first emerged at the start of June.

6ft 2 Magennis would add a different dimension to the Rangers front line, although the £400,000 man’s goalscoring record (six in 45 last season) is somewhat iffy.
