Gilliead was linked with a move to Steven Gerrard’s Rangers last week but will not be heading to Ibrox, it seems.

Just days after being linked with a move to Ibrox (The Chronicle), rumoured Rangers target Alex Gilliead has signed for Shrewsbury Town.
The English League One side confirmed the capture of Gilliead via their official website on Tuesday, with the former Newcastle United winger claiming to have looked at ‘a few other offers’ before he accepted Shrewsbury’s.
There is however no mention of Rangers, and whether or not Steven Gerrard’s side ever made an official approach for Gilliead remains to be seen.
The 22-year-old progressed through the ranks at local side Newcastle, who had been in talks to renew his contract after successful spells on loan to Carlisle United, Luton Town and Bradford City.
Terms could not be agreed however, with Gilliead suggesting he could not see a pathway into Rafa Benitez’s first team.
And with Scott Arfield, Daniel Candeias, Jamie Murphy, Josh Windass and Glenn Middleton making up Rangers’ likely wide options this coming campaign, Gilliead may have faced similar problems at Ibrox.
Should Rangers have made a move for the former Newcastle man?
