Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Real Madrid ace over this past month.
It seems as though there will be a busy summer transfer window ahead for Mauricio Pochetitno and Tottenham.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are prepared to break their transfer record twice with moves for Lyon ace Tanguy Ndombele and Real Betis schemer Giovani Lo Celso in the pipeline.
It could be argued that Tottenham still need to bolster their attacking ranks, however, regardless of whether they spend big on central midfielders too.
And with this in mind, Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio would be a real statement signing for Spurs, but does his £85 million price-tag make a move for him unattainable for the north London outfit?
Tottenham were linked with a move for the 23-year-old forward in May by Spanish media outlet AS, but at the time, Los Blancos were demanding an extortionate fee for his services.
With AS now claiming that he is available for £85 million, however, he might just be attainable for Tottenham, especially if they sell Christian Eriksen for the £130 million that they are demanding for the Dane (The Mirror).
Asensio is one of Europe’s most exciting attackers, but he has struggled for game-time at the Bernabeu over the past 12 months, and a switch to Spurs might just provide him with the platform that he needs to fulfil his potential.
The Spain international can play anywhere along the front-line, possesses blistering pace and has exceptional technique.
Asensio would provide excellent competition for Tottenham’s current attackers, and should Pochettino sign him for the reported fee of £85 million, it really would be a massive statement from the north London outfit.
He would need to improve upon his attacking output, however, to prove value for money, with just 27 goals and 17 assists to his name in 135 appearances for Real Madrid.
