Emiliano Marcondes has admitted that talks over a new contract at Brentford are yet to succeed with Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers keen on the attacker, speaking to Bold.
The Bees are used to seeing key players depart every single year and, with Ivan Toney, Rico Henry and co attracting admiring glances, promotion is a must if Thomas Frank wants to keep a talented crop of players together.
But, regardless of which division Brentford find themselves in when 2021/22 kicks off, Marcondes will be heading out of the door unless a contract extension can be agreed.
As it stands, the 25-year-old Dane is due to become a free-agent on July 1 with Championship rivals Nottingham Forest, QPR and Norwich City circling (Mail).
“We have negotiated and tried to reach an agreement but, for several reasons, it has not succeeded yet,” says Marcondes, who moved to England from Nordsjaelland in 2018.
“I love playing in Brentford, where we have a mega cool project that I would like to be a part of, so it is quite possible that we end up agreeing.”
Clearly, Marcondes’ top priority is to extend his stay at Brentford, even if he has been in and out of Frank’s starting XI this season.
Interest from Forest and QPR is no real surprise, however, given that two of the league’s most historic clubs are suffering from a lack of creativity in attacking midfield.
Forest have already missed out on Jack Byrne, the Ireland international who moved to Cyprus with APOEL recently.
