Newcastle United and Crystal Palace will reportedly make another move for Besiktas’ Cenk Tosun in January.

Besiktas' forward Cenk Tosun celebrates after scoring during the UEFA Champions League football match FC Porto vs Beskitas JK at the Dragao stadium in Porto on September 13, 2017.

Another game, another reason for Besiktas to add a few more million on top of Cenk Tosun’s ever inflating price tag.

The Standard reported on the final day of the transfer window that Besiktas were willing to accept £12.5 million for the striker who inspired the Istanbul giants to two straight Super Lig titles. A move to Crystal Palace, however, fell through as both clubs could not agree on the structure of the deal.

The Mail reported earlier this month, however, that Besiktas increased their asking price to £17 million due to Tosun’s excellent Champions League performances in an inflating market.

The report added that Tottenham Hotspur, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United all scouted Tosun in action over the international break though Fotomac has since claimed that The Magpies and The Eagles have emerged as frontrunners for the 26-year-old’s signature.

£8m more in less than two months

Though, after Tosun enhanced his reputation once again with a match-winning brace away to Monaco on Tuesday night that has Besiktas picking up nine points from nine in their Champions League group, The Standard reports that the striker’s price-tag has now risen again – to £20 million.

A Palace side who failed to score in their opening seven league games of 2017/18 are still understood to be interested, however.

The problem for Newcastle, however, is that CNN Turk claims the Magpies are only willing to offer £15 million as things stand – potentially giving Palace a major advantage.

With owner Mike Ashley claiming he cannot compete with most of Newcastle’s Premier League rivals in the transfer market, Magpies fans will be hoping the club’s prospective takeover happens as soon as possible to fund a January deal for one of Europe’s hottest strikers.
