CIES have profiled over 7,000 players from 36 leagues in their most recent monthly report, and they’ve made some rather interesting findings.
Indeed, The Football Observatory used their data to profile almost every player in each major league in Europe, and they’ve one was they’ve used those stats is to find the players most similar to Kylian Mbappe.
Interestingly, Leicester City’s James Maddison is the player with the most comparable technical profile to Mbappe in Europe, while he’s followed by the likes of Goncalo Guedes, Memphis Depay and Mohamed Salah in the top five.
CIES also ran the same tests looking at only players in France, and interestingly, reported Newcastle target Stephy Mavididi was the closest thing Ligue 1 has to Mbappe other than the man himself.
Mavididi and Mbappe are similar players in a lot of ways. They’re both pacy right-footers who play off of the left, and while Mbappe’s goal output is better than Mavididi’s their styles are alike.
It’s not surprising to hear that a team like Newcastle are looking at Mavididi, and if he continues to put up these Mbappe-esque numbers, it may not be long until Gareth Southgate has to consider calling him up to the England squad.
This is a young player with a very bright future, and if we’re lucky, he could be plying his trade in the Premier League in the not so distant future.
