Ex West Ham United manager David Moyes reportedly rejected Leander Dendoncker before he moved to the Premier League with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It has taken some time but Leander Dendoncker is finally starting to show what he can do in the famous golden kit of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Joining on loan from Anderlecht last summer, the Belgian international was forced to wait until December to make his first Premier League start.
But he has gone from strength to strength in the last two months, establishing himself as the driving force of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side and even notched his first goal for the club with a superb volley in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Everton.
So while Wolves fans will be thrilled with Dendoncker’s progress, West Ham supporters might be holding their heads in their hands.
Because, before he made the move to Molineux, the World Cup semi-finalist seemed likely to arrive at the London Stadium instead.
The Telegraph claims West Ham wanted to sign Dendoncker in the January 2018 transfer window but then manager David Moyes made it clear that he had no interest in working with the cultured 23-year-old.
Moyes successor Manuel Pellegrini might not be thanking him for that. Because West Ham are crying out for a midfielder of Dendoncker’s ilk, a powerful yet skilful presence who can turn defence into attack in the blinking of an eye while covering the whole of the pitch with ease.
In fact, they’ve been lacking that sort of player for far too long. And now they are forced to watch on as Dendoncker reminds them what they could have had.
