After their battle in the Champions League final last season, it seems as though both Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are now taking that into the transfer market, and understandably so.

Both teams have been linked with a number of similar targets since the summer transfer window opened, with CSKA Moscow’s Fedor Chalov being the latest player coming across the conveyor belt.

The Mirror have claimed that Liverpool have joined Tottenham in the race for the 21-year-old attacker, who struck 17 goals for the Russian club last season.

Chalov’s goals last season helped CSKA secure a top-four finish in Russian’s top-flight, but his best performances and his team’s best performance arguably came against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

CSKA dispatched the Spanish giants 3-0 at the Bernabeu in what was without a doubt a big upset, as Chalov played his part in getting on the scoresheet [transfermarkt].

So, if either Liverpool or Spurs are to sign the highly-rated striker then they’ll be securing the services of a player that isn’t fazed by the big stage.

Added with that, it wasn’t a case of Chalov just making a contribution from the bench, he led the line for his club as they delivered a deserved victory against the then-European Champions.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino are in need of attacking bite to their squads, perhaps more so for the bench because their starting XI’s are pretty solid as it is.

A player like Chalov, who netted two goals in Europe last term as CSKA bowed out at the group stages, is the type of player that would fit the profile both managers are looking for because he is a young, hungry and up and coming talent.
