Liverpool have reportedly made a bid for Atalanta right-back Davide Zappacosta.
Reported Liverpool target Davide Zappacosta has told reporters for Football-Italia that a move to the Premier League would be a dream come true.
The Atalanta right-back’s future has been heavily speculated on in recent weeks following a superb campaign in Serie A where he made 29 first-team appearances.
As per reports in the Italian paper Il Gazzetta, the Reds have moved ahead of the competition for his signature by lodging a formal offer for the player followed by talks with his agent.
When commenting on a proposed move to Anfield, Zappacosta couldn’t hide his emotion as he revealed to the press how playing in the Premier League has been a life-long ambition of his.
“It would be a dream to play in the Premier League, but I don’t know how much is true or realistic in this story,” Zappacosta told Sport Italia.
“I’m keeping my feet on the ground, but I certainly feel ready for an experience abroad. I want to challenge myself at the top level on the international stage.”
“If an offer came in from a big club, I’d be eager to prove what I can do. At the moment there’s nothing to report, so we’ll have to wait a few days.
Who is Davide Zappacosta?
Starting his career at his hometown club of Sora, the 23-year-old soon made an impression near the Italian capital, joining Atalanta in a co-ownership deal in 2011.
Predominantly an attack-minded player, Zappacosta gradually changed roles and spent the past two seasons on the right-flank, first as a winger and then as a right-back.
He is capped 17 times by Italy at U21 level, his attacking ability is evident and he would arguably fit in extremely well with Brendan Rodgers’ high-pressing style of play at the Anfield club.
