Following the surprise departure of Pontus Jansson to Brentford this month, Leeds United are now on the lookout for defensive options before the season kicks off in August.

The new Championship season is edging ever closer and Leeds United are in need of defensive options ahead of the new campaign.
Following the surprise departure of controversial star Pontus Jansson to Championship rivals Brentford, the once-popular Leeds figure has left a big hole in the Elland Road defence.
As a result, that has seen a number of defensive names being touted to make a switch to Leeds this summer, with the transfer window set to slam shut on August 8.
The Northern Echo have claimed that Leeds United are one of a number of sides who are monitoring Burnley defender Ben Gibson, who has endured a tough time at Turf Moor since his move in 2018.
Despite his struggles with injury, game time and form, Leeds shouldn’t hesitate in making a move for Gibson because he would add serious quality to Leeds’ backline.
It could even be argued that, both on the pitch and more than definitely off the pitch, Gibson is a better player than Jansson when it comes to Championship football.

The 26-year-old is very calm on the ball and can adapt to various systems if need be. From being able to bring the ball out of the back to having an old school feel to his game, he would be a valuable addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s team.
Added with that, whilst Jansson may provide some drama off the field, you wouldn’t see that with Gibson, so there wouldn’t be that worry that he may just end up like the Swede and making such an odd move in a few years time.
Whilst Jansson was outstanding in a Whites shirt, if you put everything into consideration, Gibson might just be able to bring that focus that’s’ needed for a promotion push.
