Abdul-Basit Agouda is a player with huge potential – could he release it at Leeds United?
Abdul-Basit Agouda looks certain to be wearing a different badge on his chest the next time he plays a competitive game.
The 2017 Norwegian league season is over and the highly-rated attacker’s contract with Stromsgodset will expire ahead of the January transfer window. And, according to Leeds Live, Leeds United could be Agouda’s next destination.
The report claims that The Whites sent scouts to watch the 18-year-old in action for Norway Under-18s recently. And with Agouda making clear that he has no interest in committing his future to Stromsgodset as he’s frustrated with his lack of opportunities last season, Elland Road could beckon.
But with Agouda making just one Eliteserien appearance in 2017, it is a little difficult to gauge just what type of player Leeds would have on their hands.
Complete striker
Though according to Norwegian football expert Jonas Giaever, Leeds fans could expect a pacy and ruthless striker with very few weaknesses in his game.
“He models himself after Samuel Eto’o (his favorite player), and has the ability to outpace his defenders and beat the offside trap, as well as play with his back against the goal,” Giaever told Leeds Live. “He has been hailed as a bit of a complete striker.”
Agouda would be the latest imported attacker brought to Leeds since Victor Orta was appointed as the club’s new Director of Football before the summer.
But while Pierre-Michel Lasogga has blown hot and cold, Jay-Roy Grot has made a minimal impact at best and Caleb Ekuban is yet to hit the net, Leeds fans could afford to be a little sceptical about this little-known Norwegian.
Though if the comparisons are accurate and Agouda is something of a Scandinavian Eto’o, a prolific goalscorer who won the Champions League with Barcelona and Inter Milan, he won’t be a bad signing on a free.
