Former Leeds United target Brahim Diaz joins Real Madrid.

Brahim Diaz #55 of Manchester City chases the ball agianst Borussia Dortmund during an International Champions Cup match at Soldier Field on July 20, 2018 in Chicago, Illinois.

Well, Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa was certainly on the right track if he really wanted Brahim Diaz at Elland Road.

The Sun claimed last June that the teenage gem was a ‘target’ of Bielsa, who has a good relationship with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola.

The Leeds boss wound up getting Jack Harrison off Guardiola on a season-long loan, but Diaz never materialised.

And it seems like the young Spaniard was simply destined for bigger things than the Championship, even at 19.

That is because Diaz has just left City to join Real Madrid in a six-and-a-half year deal.

According to Marca, he will earn around £60,000 per week with los Blancos, who paid around £15.2 million to sign the prospect.

The report adds that the ‘ambidextrous’ Diaz will provide instant competition for the heavy-hitting attacking players in the Spanish capital.

Leeds actually need someone of Diaz’s ilk more now than they did last summer, following Samu Saiz’s return to Spain last month.

But it’s still early in the January transfer window and if the West Yorkshire outfit – who sit top of the Championship – can find a couple of defenders and a playmaker, Bielsa may be bringing them back to the Premier League.
