Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing the World Cup winner.
Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp will be determined to bolster his ranks at Anfield in the summer, regardless of whether they go on to win the Premier League title or not this season.
One of the German’s transfer targets is Matthias Ginter, according to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, but the Borussia Monchengladbach ace would surely be an underwhelming acquisition for the Reds.
The 25-year-old is undoubtedly a solid player. He can operate in either the centre-back or deep-lying midfield positions and he would be a good squad player for Liverpool, but it is highly doubtful that he would help take the Merseyside outfit to another level.
The Reds have plenty of quality in the centre-back department, including Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren, whilst they are also well stocked in the central midfield area.
If Liverpool are to really kick on, they should be looking to sign a technically gifted attacking midfielder to help supplement the talents of their superb front-line.
Ginter is a decent payer, but he’s certainly not what the Reds need at the moment.
This summer’s transfer window will be an incredibly important one for Liverpool, and a good place to start would be by avoiding a move for a player who Klopp paid £9 million to sign for Borussia Dortmund five years ago.
